Ari Spassov
Chairman and Foundator
Ari Spassov

He is a graduated architect in Geneva. Very early, piping is a passion ! In 1986, he started within the Pipes and Drums of Geneva where he has played for 10 years.

In the 90s, he took part to workshops and solo competitions in Brittany. Later, he visited Scotland and the College of Piping of Glasgow where he prepared the 'teaching certificate' in following lessons with Angus McLellan. There, Tam Campbell invited him to join Milngavie Grade 2 in 1998. It was the begining of 10 years as guest piper within Milngavie.

Ari also took part in many piping events and helped other bands of his region such as the Lausanne band in which he took the leadership during 5 years. He led this band from the rudiments to several successful places on the Swiss pipe band podium...

In 2014, Ari thought it was time founding the Lemania band with some local musicians and friends all wishing to go forward in pipe band music. In the mean time, Ari becomes the first Swiss piper playing in Grade 1 with Bleary and District (NI).

Basile Denjean
Piper
Basile Denjean

He first started as a snare drummer within the Pipes and Drums of Geneva in 2011. Funny enough, after 6 years, he decided to become a piper after watching the launching video of the Lemania band.

As a student in French literature, Basile is this kind of person who sets a goal and gives himself the means to achieve it. Living at the foot of the famous 'Mont-Blanc', he mostly worked alone with the 'Green Tutor'... 4 years later, he was already qualified to play the bagpipes within the Lemania band.

Basile is also an accomplished athlete in Biathlon. He likes reading and has a very pleasant character. He will be always happy to help in whatever band of the region.

At 9 y.o. he wanted to play an instrument and the sound of the pipes attracted him very much. So Erwann started with Ari Spassov in 2007 and, in spite of being a child, he trained himself very professionally to get the best possible fingering.

After buying his pipes, he joined the Lausanne band where he played till 2011. The same year, he won the Swiss solo piping contest in slow air / jig among adults and got other solo prizes too. In 2013, Erwann experienced to play as a guest piper within Queensland University winning several first titles in Grade 3 and Grade 4A during the season.

Also called "R-1", he is a founding member of the Lemania and currently studying electronic in Lausanne. Very accurate, technical and musical, he is also a very pleasant and discreet boy in the team.

Alan Bossy

Alan Bossy

A motivated and talented young man born in September 2003. He is the youngest piper in the band.

Alan started the practice chanter when he was 7 years old with Ari Spassov. At that time, they were able to meet every two weeks only and improvements were very slow. Nevertheless, after 24 months, he got a 'practice goose' giving him new motivations.

In 2016, he received a set of pipes and his piping dream turned true. He joined the Lemania band soon after to develop his skills as quickly as possible. His first pipe band competition at the Dundonald Highland Games really made a click for him in watching other bands. More good feelings occurred when he got involved in the Avenches Tattoo.

Alan is also a breakdancer and likes reading but his favourite hobby is bank robberies, so he says ! Hopefully, a lawyer is in the band ...

Bart Biskup

Bart Biskup

Also called 'James Bart', he is a Czech physicist and a multi-instrumentalist playing the guitar and the piano.

He has been piping since 2010 and started within the Pipes and Drums of Geneva when he worked in the CERN. Convinced by the Lemania project, he is also one of the founding members in 2014. Bart has a lot of devotion, always happy to play in every gig and very helpful.

Recently graduated to a PHD in a section of the particle physics, he returned to Czech Republic where he built a family.

We miss him a lot but he gives us the pleasure of coming back from time to time to keep his title of 'Beer Sergeant'.

Sebastien Ollquist
Leading Drummer
Sebastien Ollquist

He started snare drumming in 2010 after a 10 years long background on a drum kit. He got the rudiments in the Pipes and Drums of Geneva and progressed very quickly in watching videos on the Internet. He is a true hard worker dedicating a passion for the pipe band world. As all our members, he wants to push the musical standard to its best.

In 2017, he experienced his first pipe band competition with the Lemania band in Dundonald. He also won the Swiss snare drumming solo championships that year and was contacted by Allan Craig to join the Grade 1 of Lomond and Clyde.

Keen of aviation and technologies, Seb' is studying computer sciences at an engineering school and is a great team member full of humour... and beers !

Carine Thiec
Tenor Drummer
Carine Thiec

She is a French member playing tenor drum since 2015. She started rhythmic and flourishings with Johanna Voiblet and got involved in the Pipes and Drums of Geneva where she still plays. Her motivation and desire to play make her grow very fast musically.

Carine is a true active woman concealing time in her wine shops (yes, it is very French), time for her family and friends and time to practice on her tenor.

2019 is her first season with the Lemania to challenge some competitions and more pipe band music. She is dreaming to take part to the World Pipe Band Championships as well.
